Posted By NWI, Monday, October 2, 2017

Owner, Organizational Wellness & Learning Systems, Inc. (Coachsultant, Inventor, Trainer, Keynote, Neurotheologian, CWP)

Dr. Joel Bennett, CWP

Joel Bennett has been a positive force in the National Wellness Institute.  He served on the NWI Board of Directors from 2015 to 2017, provided the June 21 keynote address for the 2017 NWI Conference, volunteers his time, and currently chairs the NWI Membership Committee. Within the membership committee, he helped pioneer the new “Wellness Connect” local event program and has facilitated two events in Texas (Fort Worth and Austin).

Dr. Bennett also has helped NWI with conducting membership surveys, analyzing, and presenting reports to our members. He has been presenting breakout sessions and pre-conference workshops at NWI over the past 15 years, and provided several educational webinars for members.

In 2008, he was acknowledged with the Service Leadership award from the National Wellness Institute. When we asked him about his passion for NWI, Dr. Bennett said “NWI has always been a place where I can combine my interests in personal development and community engagement, and also share my latest interests and research with others. It is rare to have a place where it is possible to express one’s whole self, intellectually, spiritually, and socially. I think NWI embodies—in its people and its practices—the true nature of wellness.”

Besides all of Dr. Bennett's NWI activities, he manages to be President of Organizational Wellness & Learning Systems (“OWLS”), is a loving husband, father and grandfather. His energy, enthusiasm, and personality engage everyone he meets.

Originally from Far Rockaway, New York; Dr. Bennett attended Purchase College, SUNY, where he received his BS (Interdisciplinary), Neurotheology. He also graduated from The University of Texas, Austin, and holds a PhD in Social Psychology (leadership, consulting, communication). If you can catch him in-between flights, he will tell you that he has a passion for bringing wholeness and wellbeing to the workplace—developing, delivering, and evaluating programs to improve health, teamwork, and leadership.

Dr. Bennett is President of Organizational Wellness & Learning Systems (OWLS), a consulting firm that specializes in evidence-based wellness and e-learning technologies to promote organizational health and employee well-being. He first delivered stress management programming in 1985 and OWLS programs have since reached close to 100,000 workers across the United States and abroad.

Dr. Bennett is the primary developer of “Team Awareness,” “Team Resilience,” and “Choices in Health Promotion for Small Businesses—all evidence-based, culture of health programs recognized by the U.S. Dept. of Health as effective in reducing employee behavioral risks. Team Awareness has also been recognized by the U.S. Surgeon General, and was adapted by the U.S. National Guard as one of their flagship prevention programs. Team Awareness has been used by municipalities, hospitals, restaurants, electrician training centers, small businesses, Native American tribal government, and in Italy and South Africa.

OWLS clients include corporate, private, non-profit, local, and federal agencies. OWLS have received close to $5 Million in Federal Research Grants to assess, design, and deliver workplace wellness programs. Clients who have used OWLS tools or consulting services include Southwest Airlines, Caterpillar Corporation, Carlson Restaurants (TGIF), National Electrical Contractors Association, Owens Corning, Wyndham International Hotels, Wellness Council of America (WELCOA), American Council of Engineering Companies, and various health and non-profit community agencies.
