Resilience: Finding Our Courage When the Going Gets Tough

Patty Koppa

Original Air Date: December 17, 2014

Presenter: Patty Koppa, MPH
President, Public Health Consultants, LLC

Webinar Description
When Patty Koppa was 6 years old and needing a scary surgery, the orderly didn’t place her on a gurney. Instead, he wrapped his big arms around her frail body and carried her to the operating room. Bright white lights pierced the child’s eyes as the man in white hurried up some steps and down a few halls. As she squinted, the orderly leaned over and whispered: "Remember, little one…when the going gets tough, the tough get going.”

Fifteen years, later Patty was in the same hospital for six months for a kidney transplant and three other surgeries. She remembered the message from the orderly--and thrived. This webinar is about courage and resilience. What makes us bounce back from adversity? How do we find the seven attributes of courage, and how do we find these things within ourselves and in our worlds?

This session will be a mix of research, tips, and real life stories about courage and how to tap into it when needed most. What you learn will help you coach clients and patients, and support courageous conversations with family members or friends.
