Webinar Description

What is Integrative Wellness Coaching (IWC) and why is it important to healthcare providers, wellness professionals and, most importantly, coaching clients? What are the differences and similarities between “health” coaching and integrative wellness coaching? This presentation will answer these questions as well as provide ideas on where IWC is being implemented and who might be a good integrative wellness coach. Participants will be introduced to IWC as a solution-focused, empowering, engaging, and sustainable approach to health-related change, both theoretically and experientially. This presentation will include a live IWC demonstration so participants will get to be the judge—in real time—on its effectiveness and benefit!

The principles and philosophy of IWC are embedded in the assumption that sustainable lifestyle change should include consideration of the client’s life context as well as the client’s values and beliefs about his or her health and personal change process. The profession and practice of IWC is rooted in humanistic principles and positive psychology. It also has elements of well-established leadership coaching practices, mind-body therapies such as mindfulness, and motivational theories like self-determination theory (SDT). The presentation will touch on SDT as a fundamental grounding theory for IWC and will show how IWC, rooted in SDT, can create the conditions for maximum client empowerment and motivation toward making personally important and meaningful lifestyle change.

After attending this presentation, participants will understand how IWC fills a gap in the current healthcare system where patients receive minimal support in making and sustaining necessary lifestyle change long enough to realize positive health outcomes.

Objectives

Following this presentation, participants will be able to:

  • explain Integrative Wellness Coaching.

  • describe at least one theoretical underpinning of IWC.

  • evaluate a live IWC demonstration.
