ON-DEMAND WEBINAR: Introduction to Story Medicine: Unlocking the Healing Power of Words

Story Medicine is an indigenous modality used to instruct, guide, inspire, and heal by consciously breaking silence, finding language, moving energy, and making things better in our minds. Neurologists have said that our brains are wired for story, and most of us seek stories in which we can better understand ourselves and others. In this webinar, we delve deeply into the indigenous use of story by exploring both the generative power of words and our freedom and authority to use it.

Webinar Description

Story Medicine is an indigenous modality used to instruct, guide, inspire, and heal by consciously breaking silence, finding language, moving energy, and making things better in our minds. Neurologists have said that our brains are wired for story, and most of us seek stories in which we can better understand ourselves and others. In this webinar, we delve deeply into the indigenous use of story by exploring both the generative power of words and our freedom and authority to use it. As such, story medicine is applicable to a variety of social issues such family violence, school bullying, and peace, as well as to wellness education. This webinar will also provide examples of how story medicine has been used in community-based interventions and social change activist projects, including the Race Relations Station.

Objectives

Following this presentation, participants will be able to:

  • define story medicine.

  • describe the tools of activation and mindfulness practice needed for using the healing power of story.

  • explain the old cycles and patterns of oppression with story medicine‚Äôs healing power through ritual, art and activism.
