NWI Recognizes Wellness Leaders

The National Wellness Institute (NWI) presented ten awards to dedicated wellness professionals at the 41st Annual National Wellness Conference in Saint Paul, Minn., June 27-29, 2016.

 


 Dr. Michael O'Donnell

The Halbert L. Dunn Wellness Award, NWI’s most prestigious award, presented to individuals who have shown life-long dedication to the wellness movement and have made significant contributions to furthering the cause of wellness was granted to Dr. Micheal O’Donnell. Dr. O’Donnell was program director for San Jose and William Beaumont hospitals in the 1980s, he launched the American Journal of Health Promotion in 1986, and he started the Art and Science of Health Promotion Conference in 1989. In 2004, he founded the Health Promotion Advocates, an organization created to make health promotion an integral part of national health policy. Dr. O’Donnell has authored more than 200 publications, delivered more than 275 keynote addresses, and has received 13 national awards.  

 

         

NWI’s Lifetime Achievement Award, presented in recognition of individuals who have an outstanding history of service to both the wellness community and to NWI, was granted to two recipients this year: Dr. Aldrenna Williams and Dr. Karen Wolfe.

 


Dr. Aldrenna Williams


Dr. Williams has been affiliated with NWI for more than 20 years, and has worked in public health for more than 25. She has developed strategic plans and analyzed programs and policies to guide and support the delivery of public health programs, Medicaid, managed care memberships, as well as projects funded by the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Resources Services Administration (SAMHSA), the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), and the Health Resources Administration (HRSA).

   

 

 


 Dr. Karen Wolfe

Dr. Wolfe is a licensed physician in her homeland of Australia. She worked initially as a family physician followed by 8 years of experience in the administration of national health care, wellness, and senior programs in her role as the Medical Director of the Australian Government Health Service. After moving to the United States, she continued her dedication to bringing a holistic perspective and practice into mainstream medicine and health promotion. Karen is a national and international speaker on topics such as "Integrating Complementary Medicine into Managed Care,"," The Mind/Body Connection for Health and Wellness." and many other specific health topics.

NWI’s Circle of Leadership awards, given for current, ongoing work and support of NWI, were presented to Laura Putnam, worksite wellness expert and author, Billie Frances, master coach and mindfulness trainer, Shanen Aranmór, leadership and empowerment expert, and Jim Strohecker, founder of HealthWorld online. The recipients of the Circle of Leadership award, in addition to being recognized for their past achievements, are anticipated to take active roles in the support, promotion, and shaping of future NWI events and offerings.

 

Lastly, Clara Cleve, Sue Nash, and Judi Olson each received the NWI Outstanding Volunteer Award for their more than 30 years of dedicated service and generosity as Conference volunteers.

 

NWI is honored to present these awards to all the deserving recipients in great appreciation for their past and current contributions to wellness.
