“Wellness: Our Environment = Our Health”
Presented by Seema Wadhwa, LEED AP
Assistant Vice President of Sustainability and Wellness,
Inova Health System
View keynote description
Society’s relationship with the environment has shifted. The historical context was framed around the human impact on the environment. This understanding was centered on how we as a society were impacting our eco-system: our air, our water, and our natural resources. Our new societal vantage point is centered on how our environment is impacting human health. The framework looks beyond nature and our moral imperative as it considers how our air, water, chemicals in our environments, and our food systems are impacting our health. The definition of wellness also continues to take on a broader designation. Progressive employee wellness program are developing the relationship between the macro concept of environmental health, micro-environmental health factors, and, most importantly, how those two interrelate. Employers are developing approaches to intertwine both the operational and engagement strategies with sustainability and wellness while demonstrating cost savings. Developing the synergies between sustainability and wellness allows for an opportunity to create an enhanced culture and ultimately a more engaged workforce. This presentation will inspire you to use a broader definition of sustainability and wellness while providing the foundational building blocks for developing a comprehensive program.
