Diversity is a norm of culture, but it is still considered a difficult subject to discuss. As professionals and leaders in the community, there will be exposure to diverse populations and we need to recognize this and grow a sense of connection with the people we work with. Relationships are key, and this begins with understanding. This webinar will introduce you to exercises designed to help you learn new skills and knowledge (active listening, not judging, communication skills, people first language, terminology) and become more effective at working with individuals from diverse cultures and varied backgrounds, particularly the LGBTQ population.
Following this presentation, participants will be able to:
describe diversity's role in the wellness model.
explain how an individual's interactions with others is a reflection of one’s own backgrounds and experiences.
connect and reflect on biases that individuals might have, and identify strategies to overcome these when working with others.
distinguish between the L, G, B, T, Q, and other letters of the LGBTQ acronym as well as sex, gender identity, gender expression, and attraction.
