The overall healthcare industry is moving from volume to value and individuals are seeking to take a more active role in their health and wellness. The concept of self-care has garnered increased popularity over the years and the use of alternative and complementary therapies along with mainstream medicine has gained significant momentum. Research indicates that we are likely see self-care awareness continue to grow and have an even more prominent place in primary care going forward. Despite the awareness of various holistic health practices, many individuals do not have an understanding of the “why” and “how” behind them.

This webinar is designed to improve participant knowledge of holistic wellness practices for their personal and professional use in the health and wellness field. Attention will be given to specific examples that participants can put into practice themselves or be able to educate others on in their workplace and/or community.

Objectives

Following this presentation, participants will be able to:

  • identify current holistic wellness trends.
  • explain the benefits of and science behind the identified wellness practices.
  • discuss new wellness practices they could incorporate in their personal lifestyle.

About the Presenter

Renee Harrington, M.S. Exercise Science, is a Lecturer at North Carolina State University in the Department of Health and Exercise Studies, a certified E-RYT 500 level yoga instructor with Yoga Alliance, and Senior Master Trainer for YogaFit. Renee is a health and wellness specialist with more than a decade of experience in the fitness and wellness field as a trainer, coach, workshop presenter, and national speaker. With a depth of knowledge in physiology, nutrition, and biomechanical principles she specializes in athletic performance, metabolic aspects of physical activity and exercise training, and stress management.
