Webinar Description

In this webinar, we will discuss the influence of social justice on wellness so that wellness providers will be better equipped to engage with all members of society. Despite what we might inherently believe, we all have a degree of unconscious bias that prevents us from fully appreciating how others are experiencing life. We often have a difficult time talking about racism in a culturally sensitive enough way to navigate toward better health outcomes for all members of our society.

With a better understanding of social justice on wellness, we as wellness professionals will be better equipped to establish a more equitable distribution of power and resources, so all people can live with dignity, self-determination, and physical and psychological safety. During the presentation, we will use the Six Dimensions of Wellness and the National Wellness Institute’s Multicultural Wellness Wheel to guide our discussion on social justice in wellness.

Objectives

Following this presentation, participants will be able to:

  • identify how social justice is a critical aspect of wellness care.
  • describe how unconsciousness bias impairs our ability to make equitable decisions for our clients.
  • appreciate where wellness professionals land on creating more institutionalized practices for social justice.
