Support Wellness With a Donation to the NWI Scholarship Fund

The mission of National Wellness Institute Scholarship Fund is to serve professionals and students that promote health and wellness in underserved communities and to underserved individuals.

We accomplish this mission by:

  • Continuing the mission of the National Wellness Institute to develop and provide education and resources to health and wellness professionals
  • Raising funds through our network of constituents
  • Offering scholarships for NWI membership and its benefits, for NWI's training programs, and for NWI's National Wellness Conference

What the NWI Scholarship Fund means in the greater world:

The National Wellness Institute Scholarship Fund exists to bridge the gap between served and underserved communities. The nonprofit, tax-exempt fund was established in 2003 to raise funds to provide assistance to wellness and health educators and professionals, NWI members, and students who would like to enhance their communities through education and training in the health promotion field.

Meet Zandile Dlamini

I was born in Kwamashu Township, Durban, South Africa. I am a wife and mother of three. My country has an unfortunate past of apartheid, which brought many social ills to our society. South Africa is in great need of wellness programs and wellness program interventions to educate and equip people to have a sound and stabilized community that can look forward to a better tomorrow.

My journey with wellness started very early in my life, through my Seventh Adventist Church's concept of NEWSTART (Nutrition, Exercise, Water, Sunlight, Temperance, Air, Rest, and Trust in God). Through this philosophy, the key to wellness lies in a life of health and temperance. Exercise and avoidance of harmful substances such as tobacco, alcohol and mind-altering substances lead to clear minds and wise choices. It is from this beginning that I developed a lifelong love of wellness.

I pursued a degree in Psychology, and also completed the Employee Assistance Programme, and Wellness and Occupational Health and Safety.

When I discovered there were scholarship opportunities available on the National Wellness Institute (NWI) website, I applied. I was awarded a scholarship to attend NWI's Worksite Wellness Specialist Certificate (CWWS) training and the 42nd Annual National Wellness Conference in St Paul, Minnesota. These experiences have given me knowledge and skills which will assist me in sustaining a culture of wellness within Freedom Park, where I am employed.

Now that I am back in South Africa, I am developing a wellness committee at Freedom Park with representation from all organizational levels, to create a wellness brand for us. I also intend to form netball and soccer teams, so that employees will be able to compete with other employees from different organizations.

I would like to thank NWI for their generous support for actualizing my dream of attending training and being part of an amazing, informative conference. It was an honor to be invited to do a presentation at the conference on the status of employee wellness in South Africa. I would also like to thank Sherri Galle-Teske for believing in me and electing me as a member of the NWI Membership Committee. I continue to rely on NWI, my fellow international delegates, and all the amazing people that I met during the National Wellness Conference, who are willing to assist in any way possible in making my worksite wellness programs a success. I am proud to be an NWI member, and look forward to next year's conference!
